Sustainability reporting
One reporting system for a group of operating companies
A listed infrastructure conglomerate had to build one credible group sustainability report from data held separately inside each of its operating companies. Symph built the platform that takes it from subsidiary submission to published disclosure.
We keep this client’s name private. The client is real, and so is the system.
At a glance
A group sustainability reporting platform covering submissions, review, calculated reports, consolidated dashboards, and a public disclosure site
- Client
- A listed infrastructure conglomerate with operating companies across water, power, transport, healthcare, and logistics
- Industry
- Infrastructure and utilities
- Status
- Live and in active use, with a continuing engagement through scheduled maintenance and new reporting fields
- Engagement
- Build, user acceptance testing, then ongoing support, maintenance, and reporting expansion
The challenge
The group did not have a reporting problem. It had a consolidation problem.
The data lived inside the subsidiaries
Each operating company held its own sustainability data, on its own schedule, in its own format.
Spreadsheets made every cycle a fresh chase
Submissions arrived by email and file, and the central team reconciled versions of the same metric by hand.
Indicators were recalculated manually
Derived figures were rebuilt each reporting period, which is slow and hard to check.
There was no audit trail
Without a submission record, the group could not easily show who reported what, when, or against which definition.
Public disclosure risked drifting
A separately maintained public set of numbers can fall out of step with the verified internal record.
How we built it
Symph worked with the client in three steps, each one building on the last.
Define one submission path
Contributors across the operating companies now enter data against defined fields for a specific reporting period, in one place, with a record of what was submitted.
Calculate and consolidate once
Approved submissions feed calculated reporting widgets and consolidated dashboards, so the group team and leadership read the same derived indicators instead of rebuilding them.
Publish from the same record
The public sustainability site is served from the platform, so external disclosure traces back to the data the operating companies submitted.
Modules
- 01
Data submission
Contributors in each operating company enter sustainability data against defined fields and reporting periods.
- 02
Review and approval
The central sustainability team reviews submissions before they count toward group reporting.
- 03
Calculated reporting
Reporting widgets derive indicators from approved submissions instead of manual recalculation.
- 04
Consolidated dashboards
Group and per-company views give leadership one set of numbers.
- 05
Public disclosure site
A public sustainability site served from the same verified data.
- 06
Reporting field management
New disclosure fields, including workforce and retention metrics, are added as requirements change.
Delivery model
- 01
Ongoing platform engagement
The client holds a continuing support, maintenance, and enhancement engagement rather than a closed one-time build.
- 02
Scheduled release and maintenance windows
Larger changes run as announced maintenance windows with a data entry freeze, post-deployment validation, and a defined focused-monitoring period.
- 03
In-scope support with controlled expansion
Defects inside scope are covered; new enhancements are estimated, scheduled, and approved by the client first.
How it’s built
Proven architecture
The platform runs on Symph’s standard Google Cloud stack, built for security, reliability, and easy maintenance.
Secure by default
Role-based access, encryption, and strict access controls protect the group’s sustainability and workforce data. Symph follows OWASP-aligned practices and the Philippine Data Privacy Act.
AI-native delivery
Symph’s engineers build with AI coding tools like Claude Code and OpenAI Codex, which shortens the cycle from an approved reporting change to a tested release.

The result
Group sustainability data now moves along one path: subsidiary submission, central review, calculation, dashboard, publication.
- 00critical issues reported at user acceptance testing closure
Live and in active use
The platform is the group’s working sustainability reporting system, with a public disclosure site served from the same data.
User acceptance testing closed
The client confirmed closure with no critical issues reported.
One source of truth across companies
Operating companies submit into the same framework, so the group figure is assembled rather than negotiated.
No more manual recalculation
Indicators are derived by the platform from approved submissions.
A growing engagement
Work has continued past launch into scheduled maintenance, in-scope support, and new reporting fields as disclosure requirements evolve.
